"Rather like it's sister song "Oil Over Arabia", this deals with the plight of animals suffering at the hands of Man.
In this case, the much publicised and vilified poaching in Africa of Rhino, Hippos and of course Elephants for Ivory and trophies.
The piece sings from the animals point of view and warns of imminent dangers and extinction.
Let us hope that the message finally gets through!
This is simply one more composition added to the growing canon of works trying to bring this issue to wider public and Government attention" (Guy)
Poaching in Africa
More on Poaching
Lyrics
A black-maned lion stands on a Kalahari dune
Mud-bathing ele31 phants in the midday sun
On the road from Nairobi into the Great Rift Valley
From Masai Mara to Virunga
Hippo teeth, Rhino horn and Elephant tusk
Bushmeat poaching
Villages are growing
War zones overflowing
and we are....and we are....in danger
Through the haze of the noon day heat - we can imagine
How the future empty plains will be seen
A barren wasteground once vast pride lands
The moment slips away into a dream
Come away Shadow, come away with me
Come away Shadow, come away with me
o-lo-lmasi (lion)
ol-makau (hippo)
o-sakat (elephant)
Burundi echoes with empty river
and the hint of a passing ivory ghost
Shall we mourn them? and play our part
They wait for a sign, that Man no longer needs us
Just pictures in a glossy magazine
Long time, a shadow falls and the Earth is lessened |
